Desdemona - Othello - New Harmony Theatre
"...the play’s most truly moving scenes played out in the quiet exchanges between Susan Derry, as the wrongly accused Desdemona, and Joy Franz as Emilia, Desdemona’s servant and Iago’s wife. Derry’s transition from loving, loyal, confident wife, whose smile seemed to warm the room, to stricken, confused, victim was painful to witness.

Eliza - My Fair Lady - New Harmony Theatre
"Susan Derry became a vital, compelling figure as the story progressed. Her joy is inextinguishable in "I Could Have Danced All Night," her fury palpable in "Just You Wait" and her wistful resolve resonates through "Without You."
       - Evansville Courier Press, Roger McBain

Agnes - I Do! I Do! - New Harmony Theatre
"Susan Derry and Darrin Baker made an engaging pair, dancing both literally and figuratively through the changes in their characters' lives. Baker's more subdued singing style played restrained counterpoint to Derry's ringing, soaring vocals, which were the musical highlights of the performance. Both singers embodied the tentative fears and then the heady exhilaration of newlyweds in the opening number, "I Do! I Do!," graduating to the peevish bickering of "Nobody's Perfect," as they listed one another's annoying habits. Derry's voice brimmed with wonder in "Something Has Happened," sung by a young Agnes experiencing her first pregnancy, and breathed doubt in "What is a Woman," as she momentarily questions her marriage.

Fiona - Brigadoon - Merry-Go-Round Playhouse
"Susan Derry's Fiona is a gem - winsome acting and a voice to make you believe in magic."
       - Ithaca Times, Barbara Adams

"MGR fields a wonderful Fiona in Susan Derry, who delivers a powerhouse voice and harmonizes well with Brian Morey's Tommy in their duets."
       - syracuse.com

"Susan Derry is the comely Fiona whose wonderful voice becomes the beckoning call"
       - syracuse.com

"The plotting in Lerner's book sometimes puts excellent leading lady Susan Derry as Fiona at a disadvantage, often heard only in duets or eloquently reprising songs from other players. She makes the most of such moments, however, demonstrating the allure that pulls Tommy to Brigadoon's otherworld."
       - Syracuse New Times, James MacKillop

Maria - West Side Story - Media Theatre
"The main thing Allen Snyder (Tony), the Media Theatre and its audience have going for it is Susan Derry as Maria. Derry is perfectly cast. She exudes the open-minded freshness and individuality of Maria ... Adding to the gifts she brings to the Media stage, Derry brings a reality, naturalness, and a dramatic intensity to every scene she enters. It is she and her performance that make you respond to the tough realities "West Side Story" is exposing. It is she who wins your heart so that you want the pure love she has with Tony to prevail ... Of all the people I've seen on the Media stage, Derry is the one I expect to see on Broadway, carting home a Tony award, in years to come."
       - Delco Daily Times, Neal Zoren

Jessica - The Merchant of Venice - Portland Opera
"...partnered by Susan Derry's pretty Jessica..."
       - Opera News, Derek Mills

Susan - Company - Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera
"Derry has the opportunity to show her beautiful voice in the song "Getting Married Today"..."
       - Talkin' Broadway Theatre News and Reviews

Mrs. Nordstrom - A Little Night Music - North Shore Music Theatre
"...and there are some very good voices in the supporting cast, one of which, Susan Derry's is exceptional."
       - Boston Globe, Richard Dyer

False Angèle - The Tsar Has His Photograph Taken - Manhattan School of Music
"The Tsar was another thing entirely, with its gang of co-conspirators, very human Tsar, and especially the performance of Susan Derry as the False Angèle. Derry, who has a significant background in dance as well as singing, already seems to be an accomplished comedienne. The two twirled about the stage with a theatricality not expected in the conservatory."
       - New York Daily News, Peter Goodman

"The leading role(s) taken by ...Susan Derry... was very well handled indeed."
       - New York Post, Shirley Fleming

"...three expert student performances...Susan Derry was s musically agile False Angèle."
       - The New York Times, Edward Rothstein

Miss Jessel - The Turn of the Screw - Manhattan School of Music
"Ms. Derry gave a striking poignancy to her confessional scene."
       - The New York Times, Edward Rothstein

Adele - Die Fledermaus - The Seagle Colony
"Using the considerable talents of Susan Derry as a comedienne and fine soprano, the director built his cast around the role of Adele, the pert maid of Rosalinda. In the first act, Derry held her audience mesmerized with her stage presence. In the second act, her solo "Laughing Song was the highlight of the production."
